The debate on the negative effects of marijuana legalization in Colorado, a measure that went into effect earlier this year, returns to the spotlight, after four 10 year old students were detained after they attempted to sell the drug inside an elementary school.

According to CNN, three children and one girl, all of them 10, students of the Monfort Elementary School in Greeley, might be reprimanded after one of their schoolmates reported them to the school's authorities for selling marijuana inside the school.

The same source reported that the incident happened when a 10 year old boy sold a bag of marijuana to three of his schoolmates for $11, and one of the minors said he did not have the money to pay, and negotiated with a chocolate bar with marijuana, a product which is now legal in the state.

According to CBS a student, who was not a part of the agreement, reported the incident to an adult and now school authorities are evaluating how to reprimand the children; however, they have said that the disciplinary measures do not contemplate suspending or expelling the children.

It seems that only one of the students admitted to trying the drug, by biting a marijuana cookie; however, a medical revision concluded that he did not present any negative effects.

On its part, the Greeley Police Department is considering presenting charges against grandparents, who had legally purchased marijuana and did not hide it sufficiently well to keep their grandchildren from finding it, according to 9News, an NBC affiliate.

Earlier this year, Colorado legalized the marketing and recreational consumption of marijuana in the state, a measure which benefit the state with millions of dollars.
