The new Miami Walk of Fame was inaugurated last Friday, March 21 by actors Andy García and Jamie Fox, who besides presiding over the inauguration ceremony revealed two stars with their names on them on the tiles of the Bayside Marketplace in Miami.

Fox and García received an award from Tomás Regalado, Miami's Mayor, who during the ceremony said that the initiative to create a Walk of Fame in Miami will support local arts, according to the NBC.

In the context of the global premiere of the computer animated film "Rio 2", the inauguration of the new Walk of Fame also saw the participation of renowned Hollywood stars such as Anne Hathaway, George López, Kristin Chenoweth and Tracy Morgan, who share credits with Foxx and García in the popular children's movie.

"I feel honored by this merit, because Miami is where all my dreams developed," commented Andy García, of Cuban origins and who hails from Miami, according to entertainment website Haute Living.

On his part, American singer and actor Jamie Foxx joked about it and said he would use his star to claim a place in the city's clubs and restaurants.

"I intend to use this star to get into certain restaurants and clubs," he said between laughs, according to The Huffington Post.

It's worth noting that the stars placed on tiles to honor the actors, with a drawing of a palm tree, were designed by Brazilian artist living in Miami, Romero Britto.

The new Walk of Fame Inc. of Miami is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the arts in Miami and Bayside, and has the support of the Miami Organizing Committee, among other institutions.
