At this point, surely no one is shocked to read Amy Adams' name on list of Oscar contenders. One of the biggest contenders of the year will undoubtedly be Amy Adams for her turn in "Big Eyes." The actress has been nominated for five Oscars and with the Academy consistently short-listing her, she is bound to win one. This year she takes on a role based on a real-life person in Tim Burton's smallest film in years. With the Weinstein Company releasing the movie, she is likely to get nominated and could even win.

Jessica Chastain is another actress who the Academy has become fond of. She's been nominated twice and this year she has two high profile films. The first, "The Disappearance of Elanor Rigby," earned her rave reviews at the Toronto Film Festival. Also, the film will be released by Weinstein Company, which gives her a strong chance. The other film, "A Most Violent Year," has a lot of buzz, especially with J.C Chandor directing. However, there is speculation that her role in the film could be a supporting character.

Nicole Kidman has been on the radar for her film "Grace of Monaco" for over a year. The film is also being released by the Weinstein Company giving her an edge for a nomination. However, the constant bickering between the distributor and director could affect the film's quality.

Carey Mulligan has been part of Oscar talk for a long time but she has only been nominated once. This year she will star in "Suffragette." The film tells story of a woman who fights for women's right to vote in the U.K. and given its inspirational material, the Academy could go for her performance. She could also get a nomination for "Far From a Madding Crowd," but the material could be too tough for the Academy.

Recent Oscar winner Cate Blanchett has a juicy role in Todd Haynes' "Carol." The director is known for getting actresses awards and Blanchett was one of them back in 2007. However, production just began and that could suggest the film will not be released this year.

Jennifer Lawrence could be back for her work in "Serena." However, with constant delays and no distributor, it could signify the film is either too harsh or just terrible.

Marion Cotillard has two roles that could get her a second nomination. The first one is the overdelayed "The Immigrant," which scored rave reviews for her performance and the second is "Macbeth." Both films will be released under the Weinstein Company and that could signify gold for her.

Michelle Williams will also be a contender this year for her work in "Suite Francaise." While it seems repetitive at this point, the film will be released the Weinstein Company. The movie itself is not receiving a lot of buzz but given Williams' track record with the Academy, she could receive her fourth nod.

Other actresses who could be in the mix include Reese Witherspoon for "Wild," Hilary Swank for "The Homesman," and Berenice Bejo for "The Search."
