If you had just one destination to pick this year, where should it be?

When making decisions like these, top 10 or top five travel destination lists prove unhelpful. Instead, they only magnify your confusion and whet your wanderlust into an irrational frenzy.

And that's why we've decided to focus on just one must-go place in this piece.

If you only had to pick one place to go this 2014, make it India, specifically Rajasthan. If you allow us to be more specific, we're recommending you stay at the Mihir Garh ("Fort of the Sun"), near Jodhpur. Travel dilemma solved.

Wait - we still need to convince you why you should go there. Here's one big reason: travel guide authority Lonely Planet has named it "the world's most extraordinary hotel" this year, The Guardian reported.

What makes this accommodation extra special among the many luxurious historic hotels in world is that it's been built from scratch just five years ago and is a result of a "labor of love" by owner Sidharth Singh.

This could mean that the place has far less of those "negative vibes" that other places may have due to their previous uses in history.

The property sits on a sand dune and overlooks the arid landscape of the Thar desert. The owner said that intuition, and not reason, drove him to build the hotel. He brought in 100 local carpenters and craftsmen, who created nine 1,700 square feet suites within the space of two years. Each suite boasts of a cow-dung-and-clay fireplace, plunge pool, and furnishings from Jodhpur.

Aside from that, the hotel has a "unique equestrian program" that includes Marwari horses, which are said to be of an ancient and indigenous breed, Yahoo! Travel noted.

"Few hotels are created without compromise; Mihir Garh is a rare example. This is not just a unique place to stay; it's a shrine to the artistic and architectural traditions of Rajasthan in general and Jodhpur in particular," said Lonely Planet's James Kay.

Where to go next? Say it out loud: Mihir Garh in Rajasthan, India.
