The first great production of the year by Telemundo is ready, and its premiere is programmed for Feb. 25th, company executives said.

"Camelia La Texana", a show inspired in the classic corrido "Contrabando y Traición" by Los Tigres del Norte, produced and developed by Campanario Entertainment, will premiere in prime time from Monday to Friday at 10 p.m. on Telemundo (Channel 52 in Los Angeles) and will substitute the show "Santa Diabla", according to Hollywood Today.

Starring Sara Maldonado as Camelia La Texana and Erik Hayes as Emilio Varela, Telemundo's new production seeks to repeat the success of other shows based on drug trafficking stories such as "La Reina del Sur" and "El Señor de los Cielos", productions which enjoyed great success among the Latino public in the United States.

Set in the 70's, the show "Camelia La Texana" promises to retake some of the main characteristics of the corrido on which it's inspired, "Contrabando y Traición", an exploration on the beginnings of drug trafficking in Mexico, exceptionally interpreted by Mexican band Los Tigres del Norte.

In a recent interview with Mexican newspaper El Universal, Carlos Bolado, the filmmaker in charge of Telemundo's project, assured that the show would seek to analyze the way in which drug trafficking went from a "craft" and turned into an industry.

Last Monday, Feb. 10, Telemundo organized a media even at the Willow Studios in Los Angeles, in which the main cast of the show had the chance to speak to the press about the challenges they faced in the new production, according to Hollywood Today.

When asked about her relation to the character of Camelia and the way in which the media "glamorizes" drug culture, actress Sara Maldonado confessed that she's worried about what's happening in Mexico, but said that the story in the show is a love story.

"It's not about glamorizing drug culture or drug trafficking. I feel bad for Mexico and everything that is happening, but the story of 'Camelia La Texana' is about love, passion, betrayal and revenge, there are parts of the story that take a look at her fall and how she becomes a drug trafficker," said the actress from Veracruz.
