Twelve years after the scandals that shook the White House, when the then-President of the United States, Bill Clinton, had an affair with intern Monica Lewinsky, statements allegedly made by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have brought the subject back into the spotlight.

A report published last Sunday, Feb. 9 by the Washington Free Beacon revealed a series of documents attributed to Diane Blair, who was a close friend of the Clintons, in which the former First Lady presumably said that Monica Lewinsky was a "narcissistic loony toon".

Diane Blair, who was a Political Science professor and whose documents were donated to the University of Arkansas after her death in 2000, had various talks with Hillary Clinton in which they spoke of the tough moments the former First Lady had to go through after the media scandal that followed her husband's infidelity.

"She said he tried to end the relationship, to step way, he tried to control the situation with someone that is clearly a 'narcissistic loony toon', but she was out of control," wrote Blair in the documents which were quoted by the Washington Free Beacon.

Although for the moment neither the University of Arkansas nor Hillary Clinton's spokespersons have confirmed these statements, the American newspaper's website revealed that Hillary told Diane Blair that she thought that her husband's infidelity was due to the negative impact he suffered after the death of his parents and his friend Vince Foster, which happened one right after the other.

In a context marked by strong rumors about Clinton's possible candidacy to the Presidency of the United States in 2016, the documents leaked by the American press have stood out for how they show a former First Lady tired of the political class during her husband's term in Washington.

According to CBS, in one of the talks presumably documented by Blair, Clinton described Congress as a "bunch of whiners with no courage", during the health care debate, one of the flashpoints of the first year of Bill Clinton's presidency.

The 109 boxes containing professional documents and letters between Diane Blair and the Clintons were donate by her husband, James, in 2005.
