"Frozen" has won the Annie Awards making it the front-runner to win the Oscar.

The Disney film took home five awards including Best Animated Feature and Best Directing. The movie also won Best Music, Best Production Design and Best Voice Acting for Josh Gad.

"Frozen" had competed against "A Letter to Momo," "Despicable Me 2," "Ernest and Celestine," "Monsters University," "The Croods," and "The Wind Rises."

Other winners included "Despicable Me 2," which won the Best Animated TV/Broadcast Commercial and "The Croods," which won Best Animated Effects in an Animated Film, Best Character Design in an Animated Feature Production and Best Character Animation in an Animated Feature Production.

The Visual Effects driven film "Pacific Rim" also won an award for Best Animated Effects in a Live Action film.

Meanwhile, "The Hobbit: An Expected Journey" took home the award for Character Animation in a Live Action Production.

The Japanese animated film "The Wind Rises" went home with the Best Writing Award beating out "Frozen."

The Annie Awards are significant precursor awards because the winner usually ends up winning the Academy Award for Best Animated film. Previous winners that have also went on to win the Oscar include "Rango," "Up," and "Ratatouille."

"Frozen" will most likely win the Academy Award for Best Animated Film as it has taken home the majority of the precursor awards including the Golden Globe and Critics Choice.  The movie will compete at the Oscars against "The Croods," "The Wind Rises," "Ernest and Celestine" and "Despicable Me 2."
