Beyoncé is Criticized for Using Audio From the NASA Challenger Mission Where Seven Astronauts Died [Video]

Singer Beyoncé was criticized by NASA for sampling audio from a failed space mission where seven astronauts died for her latest album.

TMZ shared that NASA was outraged when they heard that Beyoncé sampled the recording from one of their space missions.

At the start of her song "XO" from her latest album, one can hear the recording from NASA's Challenger mission in 1986 when the crew tragically died when the shuttle exploded minutes after launch.

In a press release to present her latest album, the singer explained that "XO" is dedicated to the families of the astronauts that lost their lives on board the Challenger and for those who have died in accidents.

"'XO' was recorded with the sincere intention of healing those who have lost their loved ones and to remind us that unexpected things can happen, so love and appreciate every minute you have with the people most important to you," Beyoncé said.

NASA, however, found it disrespectful and explained that the accident of the Challenger shuttle was a great loss and represents an important of NASA's history.

On a press release quoted by the Associated Press NASA's press secretary, Lauren B. Worley said that the accident must not be trivialized.

"The Challenger accident is an important part of our history, a tragic reminder that space exploration is risky and should never be trivialized. NASA works every day to honor the memory of our fallen astronauts by carrying out our mission to reach new heights and explore the universe," Worley said.

The families of the seven fallen astronauts also opposed Beyoncé's "XO" and said they were disappointed in the singer because the song reminds them of the hardest moment of their lives.
