Criminals of the Gulf Cartel, one of the infamous criminal organizations operating in Mexico, handed out toys and food in the state of Tamaulipas, one of the poorest states in Mexico and which in recent years has been affected by the violence generated by the war against cartels.

A video uploaded to YouTube days ago shows the moment when dozens of women and children form a line to receive "gifts" from the criminals who filmed these actions and later uploaded them to YouTube.

According to information released by El País, the video was recorded on December 24 in Tampico, Tamaulipas. The video shows the criminals on board a pick-up truck outside a hospital, while other men hand out food and toys to the women and children surrounding them.

Although local and Federal authorities in Mexico have not yet confirmed if these are indeed criminals, during the video a man says "I don't want you to get back in line again" and a few seconds after the same man tells a woman "Well ma'am, have a merry Christmas from the Gulf Cartel."

The video has gotten the attention of the media and Mexican analysts, owing to the way the people of Tampico celebrate the actions of the criminals.

In recent years, Tamaulipas has been heavily affected by cartel violence, and schools had to be closed multiple times due to the violence, reported El Economista.

According to El País, the Gulf Cartel has carried out "altruistic" activities among the population they abuse. Likewise, the Spanish newspaper highlighted that the video was retaken by Valor por Tamaulipas (VxT), a network of anonymous vigilantes that publish information on Zetas and the Gulf Cartel.
