Rafa Marquez thinks that Carlos Vela should make a return to the Mexican National Team.

Vela has not played for the Mexican side since March 2011 due to questions about his discipline. However, Vela is enjoying a terrific season with club Real Sociedad and it is likely that the team will look to add him ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

"He's a great player, he's doing things well in Real Sociedad and he's at a good level," said Marquez, according to Goal.com. "He's someone that could help us."

"It's a complicated group but if we want to make history we have to win," Marquez added. "We have to change the Mexican mentality...I believe the youth national teams have demonstrated that we can play and win against anyone. It's time Mexico made a small step forward."

Mexico struggled tremendously throughout the hexagonal stage of the CONCACAF qualifiers. The team was minutes away from being eliminated altogether if not for the United States defeating Panama in the final moments of the game.

Mexico would go on to destroy New Zealand 5-0 at home and 4-2 in Wellington to clinch another World Cup berth.

Now El Tri gets to take on host nation Brazil, Croatia and Cameroon in Group A of the tournament. The group is actually quite manageable for the team as if features one tournament favorite and a couple of fringe sides that could easily be dispatched by a strong Mexican side. Vela would add an offensive dynamic that this team has only seen from Oribe Peralta in recent times.
