One of the most successful games of 2013, millions are flocking to Call of Duty: Ghosts, despite some stiff competition from Battlefield 4. The game has a strong single player campaign, but the most attractive feature for many is the game's multiplayer mode. In celebration of its recent release, here's a guide to the game's perk system and how to get the most out of your character.

Perks can help out players in a number of ways, and are broken down into seven categories, with five different perks each. These seven categories are speed, handling, stealth, awareness, resistance, equipment and elite. Players get eight points to assign between all the perks available, though players can get 12 perk points for their primary or secondary weapon as well as their equipment. Most perks use one or two points, though some can go higher.

Speed perks, as the game implies, help players move faster than their opponents. The perks available can help players move and sprint faster, as well as load their weapon, or aim down their weapon's sites quicker than usual, which could help in surprise attacks. The Stalker Perk also helps players move faster while aiming.

Handling perks help players who are constantly on the move. These perks help transition from sprinting quicker and shooting more accurately when you're on the move. This perk branch also helps you swap between weapons quicker.

Stealth will give players the ability to remain incognito longer and be harder to track by the enemy. Awareness perks, instead of helping the player remain hidden, makes it so players can track enemies much easier than before.

Resistance perks are all about recovering from attacks faster and feeling the effects of special attacks like stun and flash grenades less than a player normally would. The equipment perks are all about giving players extras during multiplayer, such as extra ammo and different types of equipment. There is also the Danger Close perk, which increases damage from explosions.

Finally, the elite perks are some of the most useful and varied in the game. These range from giving players two primary weapons, making killstreaks easier to obtain by dropping their requirements by a point, and even increasing the chance to inflict more damage with consecutive kills. These perks represent some of the best in the game.
