September and October mark the return of television’s biggest and baddest show. The season premieres of TV’s top dogs scour the first weeks of autumn, but that doesn’t mean that the tap runs dry after the leaves turn brown and fall to the frozen earth floor. “Justified” will return for its fifth season in January, and as fans prepare for its big return, particular details from production help fans catch an early glimpse of what’s on the horizon.

One of the pressing issues entering the season is Ava’s prison stint. Fans are eager to learn how long she’ll be locked up behind bars, and recent word from production indicates that it may be long than they originally anticipated. According to TVLine, Ava will be incarcerated “at least through Episode 4, which is when we’ll meet ‘Albert,’ a charming yet creepy male guard at the Harlan County Jail,” who will abuse his smidgen of power and take advantage of the prison inmates, including Ava.

In fact, Season 5 will have a very “Orange Is the New Black” feel to it. So can we expect codependent lesbian relationships that rock the fabric of an upstate female penitentiary? Probably not, but fans should expect to see Ava prepare for the long haul deep within prison walls.

In Season 5, “Justified” will introduce the white trash Florida-based Crowe crime family, led by the ruthless and handsome Dale. On the books, the Crowes run a gator farm, but as “Justified” fans should expect, their real dealings involve drugs and murder. Alongside Dale are his sister Wendy, the public face of the family, and his younger brother Danny, a romantic sociopath, an interesting dynamic that should make for an exciting season.

“Justified” will return to FX in January.
