His fame is spiraling out of control. After years of quiet success, Robin Thicke has reached an unfamiliar level of fame. In the wake of “Blurred Lines’” popularity, he continues to snag unsavory headlines, which in turn are boosting his popularity.

Despite the harsh backlash from his racy “Blurred Lines” music video, which features topless models prancing around Thicke and fellow musicians Pharrell Williams and T.I. as if they were gods, the R&B singer finds himself right back at it. His recent interview with Elle puts him in the crosshairs of feminists and advocates for women’s rights across the globe once again. You would think by now that he’d know how to filter his comments at this point in his career, but once again he’s shocked us all. The essence of his manhood and perception of love is exposed, and it may all stem back to his childhood.

“My dad was singly my whole pubescent period,” Thicke said. “He had Ms. Alabama, Ms. Dominican Republic every week. I was like, ‘Dang, Pops.’ He had an indoor jacuzzi, and he frequented it. The first time I saw a naked woman was when I went to take a shower one morning before school.”

Thicke’s father bestowed some of his relationship wisdom upon him, providing him with tips on how to pick up girls at a young age. “We were on vacation and some pretty girl walked by. I started ogling her like a 12-year-old boy, and he said, ‘I know she’s pretty, but you stared at her and followed her across the room. What if there’s a prettier girl sitting two tables away? Now she’s not going to feel special. She’ll say, ‘You look at all the girls like that.’’ You’ve got to play it cool so you don’t look like you’re desperate.”

Thicke went on to admit he lost his virginity at the age of 13 and that compared to his three-year-old son’s penis, he’s packing. But then if you put it up against LeBron James, he may pale in comparison. A healthy and appropriate comparison on all accounts. He also claimed his wife’s lips as his own, the he plays his own music in the bedroom, and makes music so people will love him.

The pieces of the Robin Thicke puzzle are coming together. His misogynistic tendencies are clear, but is that truly that kind of man he is? He loves his wife and has been with her since he was 16-years-old. No matter what he says or how he portrays himself, there’s no evidence to suggest that he’s the egocentric, sex-crazed animal that many people make him out to be. Does he promote that lifestyle? Perhaps. But that’s his own modus operandi.
