Last night, “American Horror Story” kicked Halloween into full gear. The episode exceeded all expectations of grotesque horror. Aside from unexpected hookups and unimaginable, several characters got the ax while others engaged in some unsavory intimacy, setting the tone for what will be and appalling yet riveting season.
The episode begins with a sympathetic and reasonable Fiona (cough). She singles out Madison as the next Supreme, showing signs of faith and admiration for her young successor. But of course, she can’t stand down that easily. She in turn stabs her and instructs Spalding to “bury her deep. God knows what all that s*** in her body will do to the lawn when it comes up in the spring.”
To make matters darker, Kyle’s mom’s love for her son becomes far too apparent when she inappropriately kisses him, and then some. When Zoe returns to check up on them, Kyle has bashed his mother’s head in with a trophy. Could murder and incest be the next peanut butter and jelly? Throw in some bestiality and you have a meal.
That’s right. Last night’s episode even features some mild beastiality when Queenie lures Marie Laveau’s minotaur into Cordelia’s shed, makes some rather inappropriate gestures, and asks him, “Don’t you wanna love me?” Needless to say, it was an ‘interesting’ episode.
And it’s all paying off. According to The Hollywood Reporter, DVR data for the first two episodes of “American Horror Story: Coven” shows that the series is outpacing every telecast in network history, other than “Sons of Anarchy.” The episodes have earned 4.98 and 4.92 million viewers respectively between the ages of 18-49 . “Coven” is also outpacing the previous season, “Asylum,” by 41 percent.
The more demented it becomes, the more people it attracts. One can only imagine what’s in store next.
