Fans of “NCIS” are still reeling in the loss of their beloved Cote de Pablo. Not only does it mark the end of the Ziva era, but also the romance she shared with Tony. Their love story provided texture to the thrilling NCIS action, and without it the show lacks the engaging pull that strings the episodes together. As much as fans love the police work, it’s not always enough to keep them coming back for more. There needs to be more substance. There needs to be something to hope for, something to leave them yearning for the next episode. So without Ziva and Tony’s romance, how will the show move forward? What will fill the gaps of Pablo’s absence?

Perhaps a new love interest is looming on the horizon. Executive producer Gary Glasberg recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly detailing a possible romance for Abby. “I’m certainly open to it,” Glasberg said. “I can’t say that we’ve been talking about it right now, but I’m not going to say no. Pauley Parrette is fantastic and can handle anything that’s thrown at her and if the time is right and the opportunity is right and the character is right then we’ll consider it, sure.”

At this point in time, nothing can replace Ziva. It’s a tragic loss, but time heals all wounds.

“NCIS” airs Tuesday nights on CBS.
