The vampires of Mystic Falls may be back in action, but it a much different capacity. It isn’t the same little ghoulish town we left at the end of Season 4. With Elena and several others off at college and a helpless Stefan locked in a coffin at the bottom of a river, Mystic Falls has never felt so off. But those dismayed by the unfortunate turn of events, fear no more. Stefan could be escaping the icy riverbed sooner than we thought.

Elena’s recent visions have hinted that she will soon search for her former lover, and now Katherine will be getting the same exact flashes. She’ll be the one to locate Stefan and drag him to freedom. For those of you excited for his return, but also upset with the subsequent loss of “Stilas,” Paul Wesley recently opened up about the intricacies of playing the two roles, which you can check out over at Entertainment Weekly.

In this week’s episode, titled “Original Sin,” Elena and Katherine will share a dream about poor Stefan and convince Damon to help them. He must be thrilled. Newcomers Tessa and Nadia continue to complicate things as they shed more light on Stefan’s past. It’s going to be a big week for Stefan as well as Delena. While they work together to save Stefan, will Damon feel threatened by Elena’s connection to Stefan? Check out a special sneak peek of the episode below.

“The Vampire Diaries” Season 5 Episode 3, “Original Sin,” airs Thursday night at 8 p.m. on The CW.
