The world’s favorite vampires are back, and they’re spreading their influence over the country. No longer are they particular to a little town called Mystic Falls. They now have roots in New Orleans. There’s no stopping them. In no time at all they’ll be wreaking havoc in 50 states. But look at the bright side. At least the vampires in question are some of the best looking, well groomed monsters ever to grace the face of the earth. So it can’t all be that bad, right?

“The Vampire Diaries” spin-off series, “The Originals,” is well into its pilot season, which promises to be just as thrilling as its smash hit counterpart. To prove it, Joseph Morgan, who plays Klaus on the show, opened up about his character’s priorities, the arrival of his younger sister, Rebekah, and the first two episodes’ events.

Heading into this week’s episode, Morgan said Klaus is equally concerned with both saving Elijah and taking down Marcel. “Now he knows that Elijah is in the possession of Davina, who is this incredibly powerful witch. He’s given Marcel too much of a bargaining chip, so in order to take down Marcel, I think he needs to get back his brother,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “He won’t be able to take down Marcel without getting back his brother, so I think they’re part of the same seam, really. I mean, if I was to say this episode coming up would be, for Klaus, more about taking down Marcel than getting back Elijah.”

Fans have also questioned his budding relationship with Hayley. Last week, they shared a few special moments, but she then turned on him and stole his daggers. Will their love flourish, or will it drown in betrayal?

“First of all, I agree they had a connection and a moment of bonding over their similar feelings about their past or their lack of parental attention,” Morgan said. “I don’t think it was a romantic moment really. I don’t feel like it was as if that was the start of them falling in love or something. She feels a little bit more like part of the family now. Klaus is most certainly protective over her, or at least protective over the child she carries, which by default is her. So we can expect the family to take her under their wing certainly, look out for her a little more, protect her.”

“The Originals” airs Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. on The CW.
