Corridos singer Diego Espinoza, former member of "Escolta de Guerra" was murdered in Culiacán, Sinaloa Sunday night, reported Telemundo on its website.

The attack against the famous corridos singer happened while he and his cousin José Irak Salazar Leyva exited a bar known as "Mala Noche", both were shot by individuals who have not been yet identified.

Sinaloa state authorities are carrying out the respective investigations since the motive of the attack against the 25-year-old singer is unknown. News website La Policiaca explains that Ministerial Police reported that the attack against the singer and his cousin happened within the Tres Ríos Urban Development at 6 a.m., while they listened to music in a parking lot on Diego Valdéz Boulevard.

Both men were accompanied by a group of women when three cars approached and seven armed men came out of the cars, shooting against the singer and his cousin until they were dead.

José Salazar, one of the people in the company of Espinoza, managed to survive the attack and quickly sought cover in the mall where the bar is located. The rest of the women that witnessed the event ran and some of them said the attackers fled north.

Authorities reportedly arrived to aid the victims, but confirmed that the singer and his cousin had died, which is why units of the Attorney General's office of Sinaloa recovered the bodies. Public Ministry agents added that they found 36 bullet casings of both 9mm and 7.62x39mm.

Telemundo shares statements made by Espinoza regarding the danger of his profession, saying that he had to "fight for it". His former band, Escolta de Guerra, regretted the events and wrote on their Facebook account, "We regret with great sadness the loss of a colleague and friend, we give our condolences and strength to his family. R.I.P. Diego Espinoza."
