Finally, October’s true colors will shine. Sunday marks the beginning of the eerie countdown to Halloween. Pumpkin patches bustle, costumes are methodically planned out, but most importantly, “The Walking Dead” returns to reclaim its crown as the most terrifying show on television, and as all signs indicate, nothing will get in its way.

But while the Season 4 premiere debuts tomorrow, Sunday, October 13, Andrew Lincoln, who plays Rick, informs fans that it’s the midseason finale that will have viewers reeling from the horrors of zombie mayhem. He recently sat down with TVLine to talk about the upcoming episodes and help fans prepare for what’s to come.

Rest assured, [Rick’s high spirits really don’t] last much longer than the first episode,” Lincoln said. “We’re very good at smashing things and breaking things and everything falling apart very, very quickly. That is, in fact, what happens. My wife came home from watching the first episode and said, ‘Rick smiled! And laughed!’ She was so pleased, she went, ‘Thank f—k!’ It’s been so long coming. The writers do a beautiful job at creating the beginnings of civilization and the potential for these people. You do feel they’re beginning this civilization – and it’s working. Rick has put all of his energy into growing things.”

“There’s been one scene that was pretty painful to do,” he added. “It’s always the midseason finale! It was all going so well for me this year, I was farming and just kicking back – I thought it was going to be a really relaxed season for me – and then they just go, ‘Bam!’.”

Lincoln went on to talk about his character’s relationship with Carl and how the balance between his responsibilities as a father and a group leader will be the central theme throughout the season. And as for his relationship with Michonne, Lincoln said, “I do think it’d be nice for Rick to find someone, don’t get me wrong. Maybe not just yet? I think Sarah Wayne Callies will kick my a**. There will be a phone call [from her]: ‘What’s going on?!’ A voice from the grave.”

It’s unclear whether the two will link up anytime soon, but it’s clear that Season 2 will be an unforgettable one for Rick.

The Season 4 premiere of “The Walking Dead” airs tomorrow, October 13, on AMC.
