“Homeland” is back. After a long summer without our weekly dose of thrilling terrorism, the heart stopping Showtime series has returned.

In the wake of the bombing at Langley that rocked the CIA at the end of last season, Season 3 picks up with Saul as acting director. Carrie lies in the crosshairs of a Senate subcommittee and has trouble finding stability in her life. Her bipolar medication, alcoholism and sexcapades certainly don’t help. Brody, as many fans may have expected, is still on the lam and is entirely absent from the premiere.

Where the season differs from its predecessor is its focus. The early emphasis is on Saul and Carrie. As Carrie loses grip on her own life, Saul is burdened with unsavory decisions. There relationship is dealt with swiftly and efficiently, proving that “Homeland” is back on track. By bringing those key characters to the forefront, fans can delve deeper into the connections that separate the show from any other action thriller. Its enticing characters are what roped in fans in the first place, and now they’re getting exactly what they want.

But now that the premiere has passed, fans are already looking forward to what’s to come. Luckily, Morgan Saylor, who plays Brody’s daughter Dana, recently opened up to Hollywood Life on how her own crisis will play out throughout Season 3.

“She starts out really unstable,” Morgan said. “She’s dealing with her emotions and making some mistakes. There is also some romance this season [for Dana] and there is some adventure.”

In the season premiere, fans learn that Dana tried to kill yourself and is regaining her bearings in her new life outside of a rehab facility.

Sadly, as many may have expected, Morgan admits that Dana’s bad decisions are “based on her father’s absence.” And as the weight of his disappearance sinks in, he continues to mislead her along the path to a normal life, which results in unexpected twists and turns

“It really has been the craziest thing ever since the beginning – and it has been a juicy season.”

“Homeland” airs Sunday nights on Showtime.
