The character of Moneypenny is rumored to be a sidekick in James Bond 24.

According to the Daily Mail, director Sam Mendes and producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson want Moneypenny to be "a sidekick to James, and for her to get out and harm the bad guys."

The character was last played by Naomie Harris in the most recent Bond installment, "Skyfall." If the rumors are true it could be the first time a Bond girl appears in more than one Bond movie. However, the news has not been confirmed by Sony.

Harris is best known for her work in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise and "28 Days Later." The actress has also appeared in "Explicits Ills," "Street Kings," "The First Grader," "Ninja Assassin" and "August." Harris next appears in "Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom" alongside Idris Elba.

"Skyfall," the 23rd installment in the Bond series, became the most successful film in the franchise earning more than $1 billion worldwide. The film was also a critical success and was even nominated for five Academy Awards; it won two.

James Bond 24 will be directed by Mendes and is slated to star Daniel Craig as James Bond, Ralph Fiennes as M and Ben Whishaw as Q. John Logan will write the script for the new movie. The new film is rumored to shoot in Ireland and start production in early 2014. James Bond 24 will be released in the U.K. on Oct. 23, 2015 and in the U.S. on Nov. 6, 2015.
