After years of wanting, yearning, lusting and frustration, the Mother has arrived to “How I Met Your Mother.” Unfortunately, her time with the gang will be short lived as her arc only extends through the show’s ninth and final season. What’s even worse is that she’s a lovable and amicable young lady. We want more. But as life goes, we will come up empty handed.

Although not all is lost. As mentioned, the Mother is delightful. A small dose of motherly love is better than none. During a recent interview with TVLine, Cristin Milioti, who joins the cast as the the Mom (that sounds wierd), talks about her screen time and introduction to the gang in the season’s premiere episode, which airs Monday night.

"I just felt an instant connection with him from the moment we met each other,” Miloti said of Josh Radnor, who plays Ted on the show. “There’s an ease there. He’s just the loveliest guy. So immediately, I felt very safe with him. We were making each other laugh. It was great… You can never predict. Chemistry is extremely unpredictable. And it just so happened to be there.”

Fans have waiting years for this moment, so the least Militi could do is share a bit about her character before the season kicks off. Luckily, she delivered. “I’ve said before that she’s the female version of Ted, but that’s too much of a blanket statement,” she said. “She’s really warm and openhearted, which you can see in that first episode with [Lily]. I would certainly never offer a stranger cookies on a train who looked like they were having a hard time [the way The Mother does]. As a New Yorker, I’d be like,’“Oh, my God, they probably have a knife on them!’ She’s just so direct and openhearted and caring — but also at the same time, [she's] a complete dork and shares that dad humor with Ted, that well-intentioned, but corny sense of humor. In my life, sense of humor is number one when it comes to romantic relationships or friendships. That really binds people together.”

The Mother will be introduced to each member of the gang one by one, each one as amiable as the last. However, one will stick out more than the others. “I am very much looking forward to when The Mother meets Robin. That is going to be such an epic meeting. It would depend on what I was watching. Certain ones, I was like, ‘Aww, what’s it going to be like when she meets Barney? Are they going to sing together?’"

“How I Met Your Mother” returns to CBS for its final season September 23.
