Natalie Portman has revealed that Marvel is working on a female superhero movie.
The actress told SCI FI Now that the studio has created strong women in its films and it was really exciting to see the company crossing borders with a female superhero. She stated, "There are definitely many strong women, but it will be exciting when there is a central female character which I think is coming - I have heard is coming - and, of course, also a central non-white character will also be exciting. Title characters."
She added, "But they do definitely have strong female characters in them and I think it's a testament to the people who run Marvel, their respect, their just normal human respect for women, the way they want to characterize them; you can tell when men talk to you, as just a person or as a 'woman.'"
Portman also spoke about her disapponitment when it was announced that Patty Jenkins who was originally slated to direct "Thor: The Dark World" dropped the film. She stated, "I was very upset because Patty [Jenkins] is a wonderful woman. I was excited to work with her but I understood why she chose to leave and Alan [Taylor] is really wonderful, so it was bittersweet."
Portman is about to start press rounds for her new film "Thor: The Dark World." She recently starred in "Your Highness," "Black Swan" and "No Strings Attached." The actress will next be seen in the highly controversial "Jane Got a Gun" with Joel Edgerton and Ewan McGregor. She will also star in Terrence Malick's "Knights of Cup" and another untitled film by the director.
"Thor: The Dark World" was directed by Alan Taylor and also stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins and Idris Elba. Disney is slated to release the movie on Nov. 8 in wide release.
