Andres Soto is an emerging Costa Rican composer who is increasingly in high demand.
Soto began his composing career at Hofstra University where he obtained his BA in composing. Later he got his masters at New York University in Music Composition and film scoring. During his year in college he worked with a number of filmmakers and wrote scores for a several films. The films included "Conciliation," "Mad" and "Grim Determination." He also worked with acclaimed Peruvian director Adrian Saba ("El Limpiador") on his first short film.
In 2010, he composed his first feature film entitled "Mineville," which starred Paul Sorvino, William Sadler, Cuyle Carvin and Nick Wechsler. He later composed more short films, which included 2012's award winning "El Nido Vacio." Directed by Francisco Lupini, the film premiered in Santa Fe Film Festival, Orlando Film Festival, Festival de Cine Bogota and won the award for Best Student Latino Filmmaker from the Directors Guild of America.
In 2012, he worked with Lupini again on "Sufrir Como Dedos Que no Sangran." The film was a huge success in the festival circuit and won the Trieste Festival of Latin America Cinema.
In 2013, the composer wrote the music for "Visible," which premiered at the prestigious LA Film Shorts. Additionally, he composed the score to his second feature film "The Father's Love," which will premiere at the Harlem Film Festival.
Aside from his work as a film composer, he has worked on a TV series entitled "Madre Mia!" and has also had a number of his compositions played in concert halls. In 2010, his music was played at the US Open opening ceremony at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York and at the New York City Fashion Week.
The award winning composer was the recipient of the National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts Scholarship in 2009 and in 2010. In 2011, Soto was invited by the Universidad de Costa Rica as a guest lecturer in the X Seminary of Composition. In 2012, the premiere of his symphonic work "El Susurro de una Brisa" was commissioned to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Heredia and premiered in December of that year.
Soto was also featured on Univision during the segment ACA Entre Nos on the primetime news.
With a growing resume Soto has a number of upcoming projects, including a feature film entitled "Hideaway" and another commisioned work for the Orquesta Sinfónica de Heredia. There will also be a CD which will include his work "El Susurro de una Brisa."
