The war between the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 has already begun, despite neither console being available until the month of Nov. Fans have been debating the respective merits of both consoles ever since Sony and Microsoft began releasing details about the consoles, and the companies are constantly try to sell gamers on their respective consoles. Now Microsoft's director of product planning, Albert Penello, has responded to reports that the PlayStation 4 is 30% more powerful than the Xbox One at the same time that the new Xbox One app for the Microsoft Smartglass is given new details.

Penello, in a post found on NeoGAF defended allegations about the Xbox One being significantly less powerful than the PlayStation 4 due to the PlayStation 4's superior GDDR5 RAM and GPU. He stated that those reports do not take into account the architecture of the Xbox One:

"I'm not dismissing raw performance. I'm stating - as I have stated from the beginning - that the performance delta between the two platforms is not as great as the raw numbers lead the average consumer to believe. There are things about our system architecture not fully understood, and there are things about theirs as well, that bring the two systems into balance...There is no way we're giving up a 30%+ advantage to Sony. And ANYONE who has seen both systems running could say there are great looking games on both systems. If there was really huge performance difference - it would be obvious."

Meanwhile, Microsoft revealed new information about the app for the Xbox One on the Smartglass on the Xbox Wire. The app, which is free, will allow users to perform a  variety of tasks, such as remotely starting a game or video and controlling the volume on the television. Users can also use the Smartglass for tasks such as multiplayer matchmaking without bringing users out of the action. However, it looks as though at least initially that the Smartglass will not be available for use as a controller, which Sony is pushing for with the PlayStation Vita and the PlayStation 4. Oh course, one of the biggest features that the Smartglass will have will be the ability to unlock special features in certain games such as Dead Rising 3 and Project Spark. These special features are bonuses, and not necessary for completing those games.

Look out for more news about the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Microsoft Smartglass as the next gen console get released in Nov.
