Hideo Kojima loved the new Grand Theft Auto 5 trailer so much it made him sad. After the trailer premiered earlier this week, the creator of the Metal Gear Solid 5 revealed his feelings about the trailer through Twitter, and admitted he thinks Rockstar's game will be better than his upcoming open-world game, which he said makes him depressed:

"'GTA V' new trailer was awesome! This free control is future of the game, way higher than anywhere, makes me depressed as matter fact...I don't think our 'V' (referring to Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain) can reach that level. Rockstar's team are the best. (Without) question they will pull up the possibility of game."

While Grand Theft Auto 5 certainly looks impressive in the gameplay trailer revealed this week, Kojima's reaction may have been a little overdramatic, to say the least, over the difference in quality between the Phantom Pain and Grand Theft Auto 5. Metal Gear Solid games are universally praised for their stories and gameplay, and it would be easy to put the two franchises in the same elite category.

The Phantom Pain also has a definite advantage over Grand Theft Auto 5: it will be available on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in addition to current consoles. Grand Theft Auto 5 is only appearing on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and many gamers consider the title as the last big game to purchase before the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are released. While Grand Theft Auto 5 looks impressive and will be an obvious contender for game of the year, The Phantom Pain could take off with both current and next-gen consoles owners and ultimately reach a wider audience.
