According to the latest public advisory from the National Hurricane Center (NHC), Tropical Storm Barry has made landfall in the state of Veracruz, Mexico as of 1300 UTC on Thursday.

Barry is currently located approximately 40 miles northwest of Veracruz, Mexico. The storm is moving toward the west near 5 miles per hour and this motion is expected to continue over the next 24 hours. The storm is expected to move further inland over the state of Veracruz on Thursday. A tropical storm warning is currently in effect for Punta El Lagarto to Tuxpan, Mexico.

Maximum sustained winds have decreased to approximately 40 miles per hour, though higher gusts are being recorded. Tropical storm force winds may be felt extending outward up to 70 miles to the east of the center of the storm. Additional decreases in wind strength are expected throughout the day on Thursday and Tropical Storm Barry is expected to become a remnant low by Thursday night or Friday.

Tropical storm conditions are still occurring along the coast of Mexico within the warning area for Tropical Storm Barry. High winds are expected to continue for the next several hours and subside by Thursday evening.

Barry is expected to produce total rainfall accumulations of three to five inches, though maximum amounts of up to 10 inches may fall over portions of southern Mexico. The National Hurricane Center warns that these rains could cause life-threatening flash flooding and mud slides, especially in mountainous areas.
