An explosion forced the evacuation of a concourse at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport Tuesday morning just before 9 a.m.
The blast happened at a ramp level maintenance shop within the airport's Concourse D section. However, Atlanta Fire Department spokeswoman Janet Ward said there was no fire or smoke, reports WSBTV, nor were there any injuries. The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
Officials say the small electrical explosion knocked out power to most of the concourse. As a result, airport workers moved the passengers by bus to another concourse. Later Tuesday morning, the passengers were allowed to walk back through the main terminal once the power was restored to the area around 10 a.m., ABC News reports.
At 10:14 a.m., airport officials tweeted that all evacuated passengers had returned to the concourse.
Passengers said they were not allowed to leave Concourse D for about an hour with partial lights and no air conditioning.
WSBTV caught up with several passengers. One, named Tina Henderson, told the news station that "There were people everywhere stopping us saying 'You can't go any farther. Concourse D is shut down."
"I went up the escalator and all of a sudden it stopped. All of the lights were off. We got on the train and then the train wasn't working, so we got off the train and walked, and walked, and walked, and here I am," one woman told Channel 2's Craig Lucie.
