Now that the issue of gay marriage is back in the forefront of national politics, everyone has been chiming in, including celebrities.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court heard the first of two cases on the issue of same-sex marriage starting with Proposition 8, a law that bans gay marriage in California.  On Wednesday, the high court heard arguments against the Defense of Marriage Act, or DOMA, which benefits legally wed gay couple from receiving federal recognition or benefits.

As thousands of people marched in Washington, DC either for or against gay marriage, superstar diva Beyonce chimed in on the issued via her Instagram page. The Grammy Award-winning performer posted a picture of a handwritten note based on her hit "Single Ladies" writing "If you like it you should be able to put a ring on it," followed by the hashtag "We will unite 4 marriage equality!"

She also posted a photo of the Human Rights Campaign's red equal sign logo with the message, "It's about time #equality #prop8 #marriageislove . . . show your support!"

Likewise, a host of other high-profile celebrities have publicized support for marriage equality including Madonna, Sophia Bush, Patrick Stewart, Sara Bareilles, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Ben Affleck, Brendon Ayanbadejo, Cindy Crawford, Russell Simmons, Seth McFarlane and Ricky Martin.

Last May, Beyoncé's husband hip hop mogul Jay-Z also came out in support of gay marriage during an interview with CNN: "I've always thought it as something that was still holding the country back," he said. "What people do in their own homes is their business and you can choose to love whoever you love. That's their business. It's no different than discriminating against blacks. It's discrimination, plain and simple."
