December fools? FC Barcelona defender, and boyfriend of Colombian singer Shakira, Gerard Pique pulled a fast one on his nearly 5 million fans on Twitter last night after he tweeted that his baby with Shakira had been born.

"Ya ha nacido nuestro hijo! Estamos muy felices! Gracias a todos por vuestros mensajes!," the footballer tweeted. (Translated: Our son has been born! We are very happy! Thank you for all your messages!) The message, which was sent out Thursday night, sparked a Twitter frenzy, with more than 23,900 retweets and over 5,800 favorites.

However, it turned out that the 25-year-old Spaniard was just fooling his followers as a Día de los Santos Inocentes (the Latino equivilent of April Fool's Day) prank. Pique confirmed the joke hours later in a second tweet, "Ya tiene nombre! Se llama Inocencio! Feliz Día de los Inocentes a todos!" (Translated: He already has a name! His name is Innocent! Happy Day of the Innocents to everyone!)

Shakira and her footballer boyfriend first confirmed the news of her pregnancy in September after months of media speculation. The social media savvy Latina wrote on her website, "As some of you know, Gerard and I are very happy awaiting the arrival of our first baby!"

During an interview with Germany's RTL, Shakira then confirmed that the couple was expecting a boy.

The couple first met while filming her South Africa World Cup music video "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)" in 2010. The couple confirmed their relationship on her social media sites in March 2011. Pique, who is also a player of the Spanish National Team went on to win the 2010 World Cup and won the 2012 Euro Cup Championship with his teammates.

According to Colombian magazine Gente, Shakira is expected to give birth in January 2013 through cesarean section.
