Every year, there are new diet trends that surface, offering the same promise of helping people get rid of the extra pounds that they gained during the holiday season. In 2016, there are several ways to lose weight, so find the right diet that is compatible with your lifestyle and current health condition.

1. Detox or juicing diet

CBS News revealed that detox diets generally involve fasting, followed by the consumption of raw vegetables and fruit, juices and water. However, experts warned that detox diets should not last several weeks. After some time, people might develop nutritional deficiencies by relying on fruit and vegetables only. Dieters should also be wary of fad supplements that are offered with certain detox schemes.

2. High-protein, low-carbohydrate diet

A lot of people are staying away from carbohydrates to avoid extra sugar that will be converted and stored into fat. Dieters are recommended to take twice as much protein than recommended and to lower their carb intake. The Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for protein is 0.8 grams per kilogram of bodyweight. People can compute for their protein RDA by multiplying their weight in pounds by 0.36.

3. Jerky diet

The jerky industry has significantly grown since 2009. A lot of people are opting to snack on jerky, which is high in protein and is flavorful. Today stated that consumers should opt for good-quality jerky made from free-range chicken or beef to avoid unnecessary additives and growth hormones.

4. Root to stem diet

The diet involves cooking all the parts of a vegetable, and not only the usual parts like the leaves. More restaurants are serving vegetable tops like those of carrots, beets and turnips. These are actually high in fiber and aids in digestion, thereby helping people get rid of the extra pounds faster.

5. Paleo diet

The diet has been around for the past few years. The approach involves eating the same items that prehistoric men used to consume, such as meat, fish and fresh fruit and vegetables. Many individuals who embark on high-intensity workouts rely on the diet to burn fat quickly. By removing a lot of carbohydrates, the body is less likely to store sugar and fat, based on the same CBS News report.

6. Mediterranean diet

The usual food items include fruits, olive oil, vegetables and red wine. The diet takes out processed products and simple sugars. Many people prefer the diet because it was linked to a decrease in risk of death from cancer, mental illnesses and heart problems.

These 2016 diet trends will certainly work better if coupled with regular exercise and sufficient rest.
