The continuation of the "Rocky" film franchise "Creed" is already getting rave reviews from both critics and fans alike and is even doing well in the box office despite the "Star Wars" mania going on.

The good news for "Creed" is that Comic Book Resources reports that MGM is already planning a sequel for the spin-off film, and rumors are circling that a familiar character may find his way back to the film.

Sylvester Stallone himself has stated that they are looking into ways to get Carl Weathers, who played Apollo Creed in the "Rocky" films, into the sequel.

While the intention to get Weathers back into the film is good, it might prove difficult as the character died in "Rocky IV" at the hands of Ivan Drago.

Stallone stated that he and Ryan Coogler have several ideas on how to make it work. The action star says to think of it as a "Godfather II" style of having the character in the film. While it does sound very ambitious to copy the style of such a historic film, it could work.

According to Collider, Stallone has also met with Weathers recently to check if the actor is still in shape enough to play Apollo. Stallone claims that Weathers still looked in great shape and that it's hard to believe that he went in the ring with Weathers even if it was just "pretend" fighting.

However, the biggest hurdle the sequel to "Creed" is going to have is the availability of director Ryan Coogler, who has recently signed to direct the solo "Black Panther" film for Marvel.

Stallone has taken notice of this problem and has stated that he knows that Coogler will be tied up with the film for a few years, and it presents a problem. The mostly likely path that the movie will be taking is that they will allow someone else to direct while Coogler takes a producer's role instead.

The window for sequels is usually very short, and the decision to go on without Coogler at the helm must be made soon so audiences will not forget.

Currently, there is no word yet on any release date for the sequel.

What do you think of Carl Weathers reprising his role as Apollo Creed in the "Creed" sequel? Is there anyone else you'd like to see return to the franchise? Let us know in the comments below.
