It has been over two months now since we last heard or saw David Lemieux who lost in the eighth round at the hands of Gennady Golovkin at the Madison Square Garden in New York.

While Golovkin has been periodically in the headlines, Lemieux seems to be still in the recovery stages of that loss. However, now it seems there is some news on his future plans.

According to Boxingscene.com, the former IBF middleweight champ could be due for a March return. This was revealed by Camille Estephan who handles Lemieux and is also the head of Eye of the Tiger management.

There have been no names mentioned as we speak, though it will not be surprising of Lemieux and company will be looking for high-caliber boxers. Seeing the magnitude of Lemieux' fight with Golovkin, the expectations have understandably gone up a notch.

Aside from the date, the only thing that seems to be certain would be the place where Lemieux’ return bout will be held – Montreal, his hometown. If such is not possible, Estephan says that they may settle for one in America.

Right now, there seems to be a couple of fighters who could be potential candidates. Miguel Cotto could be one, although the camp of the former WBC middleweight champion will likely prefer someone who can rack in PPV buys.

If ever, Lemieux could find landing a fight with Cotto difficult, especially with Billy Joe Saunders eyeing the Puerto Rican for a possible match for himself.

Andy Lee could be an option though Boxing News 24 reports that the Irishman seems to be more inclined to get a rematch with Saunders. Lee lost to Saunders via majority decision last Saturday, which saw him got knocked down twice in the third round.

A possible rematch between Saunders and Lee could take place but the former hinted that such would only happen if a rematch makes good business sense.

Lee did manage to rally back in the later rounds but the two knockdowns seemed to be too much ground to cover and convince the judges.

“The two knockdowns cost me the fight,” Lee said at the post-fight press conference. “I can’t complain about the decision. I would like another go at it. I felt I finished stronger.”

Right now, Lemieux and Lee may have to wait and see who would be left out and available for a fight in 2016. Some of the possible names possibly include Chris Eubank Jr., Tommy Langford or even Willie Monroe Jr.
