Video game publisher Electronic Arts (EA) is joining the Star Wars fever.

In a press release published at the Star Wars website, EA announced that gamers can double their score and credits in the multiplayer mode of "Star Wars: Battlefront" this weekend as part of their celebration of the release of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

Through this extra boost in scoring, gamers of the action shooter video game will be able to increase their rank quicker while also unlocking outstanding Star Cards and Emotes among many others.

This new Double Score promo for "The Force Awakens" weekend has already started this Dec. 18, 2015, which was also the U.S. release date for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." The promo will run until Monday, Dec. 21, 2015, at 1:00 a.m. PT.

"No matter how many times you're planning on watching the movie this weekend, there will be plenty of time to take advantage," EA highlighted in the announcement.

The video game publisher has been ramping up its promos and marketing of its shooting game along the hype created by the "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" film.

As cited by Game Rant, EA has just released its latest DLC "Battle of Jakku" which was formed with a tie-in from the "The Force Awakens" movie. The said DLC featured a new map named Jakku as well as a new 20 vs. 20 game mode called Turning Point.

The Game Rant report pointed that the content of the DLC takes place 29 years after the events of "The Force Awakens." Hence, gamers should watch the movie in order to relate the events in the DLC to that of the film.

Additionally, the gaming news outlet highlighted that, although "Star Wars: Battlefront" did not perform well financially, it is expected that the game will receive a boost from the hype and popularity surrounding "The Force Awakens."

"Star Wars: Battlefront" had its worldwide release last November 2015. According to Metacritic, it allows players to perform "heroic moments" and their "intense battle fantasies" while also giving them the opportunity to explore even the iconic planets featured in the "Star Wars" film series.

The game featured various type of battles from multiplayer modes to solo missions as well as with a partner via a co-op mission online or a split screen.

The game is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4 and PC. Moreover, it can be purchased now at discounted prices here.
