Star Trek 2  comes out next summer, but with other major films such Iron Man 3 also slated for release Paramount has already gotten the advertising campaign underway.

Those that go to see The Hobbit this weekend at IMAX theaters will be treated to the first nine minutes of the film. At a press screening event on Sunday in Los Angeles, a select number of journalists were shown the opening sequence. The first nine minutes of the film re-introduce the original cast of characters and briefly introduces the mysterious new villain during a sequence revolving around the fate of a sick child. The Huffington Post adds that the sequence hints at the identity of the villain without really giving away much. The opening sequence also features a battle on planet Nibiru where Kirk has gotten into trouble with the natives. Both MTV.com and the Huffington Post note that the sequence includes comedic touches that resemble the Indiana Jones and James Bond films. The crew must neutralize an active volcano and each cast member gets his or her moment to shine.

Also revealed at this event was the return of the Klingons  and their homeworld Qu'noS and the identity of Alice Eve's character. According to Trek News, her character is that of Carol Markus who is the future mother of Kirk's son David.

The film is slated for a May 17,2013 release date in 3D and IMAX.
