The LG G5 is something that has been quietly going around the rumor mill, and its possible release is believed to be slated for May 2016.

However, there is a chance that the LG G5 could make an earlier debut, which could be around February. Word of such comes from a certain Weibo user named “Zealer” via Tech Grapple.

According to him, the LG G5 will sport a 5.6-inch QHD display and a metallic body rather than the optional leather-based one. The likely reason for this could be attributed to another LG device that was launched this year, the LG V10.

Inside, it still remains similar to that of the LG G5, and will make use of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor as most upcoming phones are reportedly leaning on. Aside from that, the device will reportedly have the Adreno 530 GPU in tow, as hinted by Phone Arena.

Then, there is the floating rumor on what kind of security biometrics that device will have.

Per Techno Buffalo, the LG G5 could come out with an eye-scanning technology that stands to beef up the security measures of the phone. Already expected are the fingerprint reader, which has become a common feature that most phones are sporting and will sport from here on.

Perhaps the most eye-catching feature among them is the main camera. It is believed that the LG G5 could be sporting a 20 or 21 MP main camera that comes with a large ½-inch sensor.

If so, this is quite a big jump from the ½.6-inch 16 MP camera that the LG G4 carried. Up front, there is word that the LG G5 will sport an 8 MP front-facing shooter, with some hoping that it will also be a dual-camera setup similar to what the LG V10 had to offer.

Summing it all up, it does somehow justify the claims of user Zealer who believes that the LG G5 is a “beast” of a device to consider.

So is it positioning itself to go head to head with another rumored device in the form of Samsung Galaxy S7?

Of course everyone knows the noise that the Samsung Galaxy S7 has been making these days, with belief that it will be unveiled before the 2016 Mobile World Congress.

With the Samsung Galaxy S7 believed to be the star of Samsung’s annual “Unpacked” event that will be held on Feb. 21, 2016, the tipster also reveals that LG could be launching the LG G5 even before that.

Assuming LG does pull the covers of the LG G5, would it be enough to steal the thunder from under the Samsung Galaxy S7 for the first quarter of 2016?
