The benefits of having a Google Nexus 5 includes of course being the first one to get the latest operating system update, which in this case is the Android 6.0 Marshmallow. With that in mind, owners are like the first ones to report on whether the update has done good or bad.

Normally, some bugs would be addressed and possibly new ones arising. Such seems to be the never-ending issue for OS updates so keep an open mind for such. But before applying the updates, always remember the best tip of all – make sure you back up your data first, ensure you have a stable connection and at least 50% battery on hand.

Here are some of the issues that you will likely come across:

1. Battery Drain. This is not a surprising issue to come across since battery life issues have been a constant issue with current and past OS updates.

Just in case you fall to this problem just now, the best way to resolve it is clear your app cache or reset your device. Usually you can do this by going to Settings > Storage and USB > Cached Data > OK.

If that doesn’t work you may have to clear your system cache and go to recovery mode. You can do this by pressing and holding the Power and Volume buttons down and access the Fastboot menu and use the volume buttons. The power button is used to select.

2. Bluetooth WiFi Connection Problems. Another issue that could persist after applying the update is something tied to your WiFi connectivity. In case you come across this problem you can toggle the Airplane Mode, forget and reconnect to the network, toggle mobile data on and off, or eventually try to reboot your device.

3. Stability Issues after update. After update, there could be problems that have come about which could probably be affecting apps. To figure out the problem, clear your mobile phone’s cache, and see which among your installed apps is malfunctioning. As in previous issues, rebooting could be a good idea as well.

4. Nexus 5 not charging? Don’t be alarmed if your phone ends up having charging issues as well. You can always try to calibrate your battery first. If that doesn’t solve the problem, you do a factory resent.

5. Lagging Nexus 5 on Marshmallow. Ideally, updates would account for the slow functionality of your phone at first. Give it some time to normalize. If it still persists, you may have to do a factory reset.

Before doing so, remember that it would be wise to back up your data. Once that is done, go to Settings > Backup and Reset > Factory Data Reset > Reset Phone.

So as you can see, much of the issues to expect after an update seems to be pretty much common with previous Android OS updates. There will be issues and perhaps more.

It seems that the easiest way to see if it can be fixed is through a simple reboot. If not then the phone reset is the way to go, perhaps the extreme measure.

Hence, it is important beforehand that even before applying the Android 6.0 update, just make sure you backup your phone to save your data and apps. Either way, you may eventually fall along that line so a simple backup effort on your part would not hurt.
