As fans of the 90s hit classic 'Boy Meets World' revel in the news of the upcoming Disney Chanel spinoff 'Girl Meets World,' actor Rider Strong, who played Cory Matthew's best friend Shawn, spoke on the possibility of joining the new cast.

On Wednesday, the 32-year-old actor told The Insider that he is not officially involved with the sequel, yet. "I am extremely happy for Ben [Savage] and Danielle [Fishel] to be able to continue the story. At this point, I have no official involvement in Girl Meets World," Strong said.

"There might be a chance to see some of the BMW cast in a guest spot, and I think it would be nice to find out where our characters have been all these years. But Girl Meets World will be, and I think it should be, its own show. It will be about Cory and Topanga, their daughter, and a new set of characters," he added.

TV Line reported that the new potential sequel will pick up over a decade after 'Boy Meets World' ended and will find couple Cory (Ben Savage) and Topanga (Danielle Fishel) happily married and raising their 13-year-old daughter Riley. The new show will be told from the point of view of Riley, who has yet to be cast.

Over the weekend, Savage and Fishel confirmed the news that they had signed up for the new show to reprise their beloved roles of Cory and Topanga. On Saturday, Savage tweeted, "I'm going to be a father! Well, on TV at least. The 'Boy Meets World' sequel is officially happening!"

Fishel also took time to address fans in a Tumblr post. "First of all, let me say that you, the fans of Boy Meets World, have been awesome.  That word is often used incorrectly by people, including myself, on a daily basis but you have truly been awe inspiring.  You, yes, even YOU, are the reason that Girl Meets World WILL BE MADE," the actress wrote.

The 31-year-old actress also said that she was unsure of whether other 'Boy Meets World' cast members would be joining in the new series. Rider is not the first original cast member to talk about a possible involvement with the new series.

According to TMZ, 24-year-old actress Lily Nicksay, who played Cory's younger sister Morgan from 1993-1995 before being replaced, said she is very excited about the new show. "I'd love to talk [to Disney] about being a part of it," Nicksay said.

A Disney Channel rep told E! News that the show was still "in the very early stages of development with creator and executive producer Michael Jacobs." A national casting search is being conducted to find an actress for the role of Riley Matthews, the rep confirmed.
