Rumors broke out yesterday that Joseph Gordon Levitt would be playing Batman in the upcoming Justice League movie.

However, according to recent reports, the actor will not be playing the role of the caped crusader. The actor's representatives were quick to deny the rumors and left little to no space for the possibility.

Some websites, such as Hollywood.com have stated that the representatives might simply be saying no to not let more news get out. The idea of Gordon-Levitt as Batman seems plausible given how the last Batman movie by Christopher Nolan The Dark Knight Rises concluded. It is also not such a bad idea from a financial standpoint for Warner Bros either.

Nolan's franchise was one of the most profitable film series for the company in recent history and starting the Batman franchise over may be difficult for them to do considering the benchmark they have to reach. However, this might be made easier if they try to maintain some sort of a link from that set of films rather than distance themselves from their most successful super hero film.

Other than his direct connections to the Batman Franchise, Gordon-Levitt makes sense simply because he is a major star on the rise. He starred in Chris Nolan's Inception, and in the more recent Looper by Rian Johnson. He is a recognizable face and could help lend some star power to the upcoming film.
