Looking back to the disappointing finish of the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao fight last May 2 in Las Vegas, one thing that could have saved the alleged ‘Fight of the Century’ was a knockout win.

As everyone knows, Mayweather opted to stick with his routine and employ the expected defensive matrix that has been his formula to success against an equally expected aggressive Pacquiao.

Included in that tactic was of course frustrating Pacquiao from connecting on his jabs and punches and such was evident at the end of the fight.

Mayweather’s game plan was of course in stark contrast with what he had been preaching during the stages of preparation though only a handful took his word for it.

According to his father, Floyd Mayweather Sr., his son could have knocked out Pacquiao had he taken his advice.

In an interview, the elder Mayweather claims that Floyd Jr. could have knocked down Pacquiao had he thrown the hook he told his soon to throw.

As everyone knows though, Floyd Jr. hasn’t always listened to his father when it comes to his career and thus far, he has proven successful.

It may never be known if that alleged hook would have knocked down Pacquiao but the bottom line is Mayweather Jr. won that one. Despite the fact that many were disappointed and furious at the way the bout went down, it still goes down in the record books as a win on behalf of Mayweather Jr.

So if not against Pacquiao, why not try that so-called hook on Berto this coming September 12?

Mayweather is set to go for his unprecedented 49th win which will allow him to match the record of Rocky Marciano in a couple of weeks. Berto is a heavy underdog against Mayweather though a change in strategy could happen only if Mayweather finds it necessary.

Though Berto is not among the big names in boxing, expect Mayweather to measure his opponent first before opting to go for a different perspective. He could dance and frustrate Berto has he has been doing with his prior opponents but if the 38-year-old finds an opening, he could go for it.

Last August 28, we did report that Floyd Sr. shares the same sentiments of most believing his son is likely to fight on after September despite repeated claims of his son that this is his last one.

Looking ahead, Floyd Sr. believes that a good payday could sway his son to fight once more. Among the names that could fall in that niche include Miguel Cotto, Canelo Alvarez and possibly Manny Pacquiao.
