With major comic book inspired films slated to hit the cinemas this year dominated by announcements from DC and Marvel, our four favourite amphibian heroes are also making a much-awaited comeback.

According to film website Movie Pilot, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, subtitled Half Shell, is due to release June of next year.

Here are the things we know so far:

Stephen Amell of "Arrow" is Casey Jones

Movie Pilot reports that Stephen Amell  will be joining the TMNT cast as the hockey stick-bearing new ally of the Turtles and a possible love interest for April O'Neil.

Actors who play major characters will remain.

Megan Fox, who played April O'Neil, will be staying for the sequel, as are Will Arnett and William Fichtner who return as Vern Fenwick and bad-guy Eric Sacks respectively.

Movie Pilot also confirmed the participation of voice actors Alan Ritchson (Raphael), Noel Fisher (Michelangelo), Johnny Knoxville (Leonardo), and Jeremy Howard (Donatello) as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Tony Shalhoub will be returning as Splinter.

Bebop and Rocksteady will be making a debut.

TMNT Half Shell will introduce the characters Bebop and Rocksteady who are mutant rhino and warthog villains, respectively.

These members of Shredder's Foot Clan will be voiced by Gary Anthony Williams (Bebop) and WWE wrestler Sheamus as Rocksteady (the rhino).

It's still unconfirmed if they will go full warthog or rhino for the movie but Comic Book says that a leaked production of their animal forms has been drafted for the first movie.

We might see villain So Krang.

It's said to be kept under wraps but it is heavily rumoured that classic TMNT villain So Krang is going to be brought to the screen.

According to Movie Pilot, So Krang is a war criminal who had his brain removed from his body and then transformed to a human-brain hybrid creature.

He is banished from Earth to Dimension X for his crimes, escaped and then comes back to take over the Earth. He and Shredder become a team that are on a mission to destroy the Turtles.

Shredder will return.

Comic Book revealed that the TMNT's arch nemesis Shredder returns and Brian Tee will be replacing Tohoru Masamune for the role.

Baxtor Stockman will be played by Tyler Perry.

Comic Book says that the size of his character is unknown, but it is comic geek knowledge that Stockman allied himself with Shredder and created the Mousers, which are mutant-hunting robots.

According to Comic Book, David Green will be directing from a script written by Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec.
