Nintendo's new console, the Wii U , released yesterday, November 18, across North America. Along with the console, 23 titles also launched on November 18. A look at Metacritic shows that reviewers seem to be believe that Darksiders 2, Batman: Arkham City Armored Edition, and New Super Mario Bros. U are the three best video games available for the Wii U at the moment.

Metacritic takes review scores from various publications and aggregates them into an overall average score. At the time of this article, Darksiders 2 had the highest score, earning an 85 out of 100 average.

Gamers take control of Death, one of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse, as he tries to vindicate his brother War, another horsemen, from accusations that he started the Apocalypse prematurely in the original Darksiders.

The GamesRadar review gave Darksiders 2 a 90 out of 100, saying, "An excellent way to experience Death's adventure. There haven't been any significant changes from the Xbox and PS3 versions. The combat is still thrilling, the dungeons are lengthy and challenging, and the loot hoarding is addictive."

Videogame website IGN, however, stated that a number of technical problems seem to hold Darksiders 2 back.

"The RPG elements and to-the-point action all make for some solid gaming, glitches and all. It's a shame so many glaring issues hold such an ambitious endeavor back from the greatness its developers were clearly aiming for," writes IGN.

The second highest-scoring game is Batman: Arkham City Armored Edition, which is essentially the same game as Arkham City, with a few gameplay tweaks to take advantage of the Wii U's controller. Players control Batman and battle their way through familiar faces such as Penguin, Mr. Freeze, and of course, The Joker.

Arkham City Armored Edition received an average score of 84, with IGN giving the game a 95.

"Batman: Arkham City isn't perfect, but listing the little things I didn't like gets in the way of all the stuff I adored," says IGN.

Other reviewers, however, admit that while this is a great game for the Wii U, it is not the best version of the game out there.

"Although the core of Batman: Arkham City remains intact, new glitches and tacked-on gimmicks take away from the overall experience enough to make this a clearly inferior version of one of the great games of this generation," EGM said in a review that gave the game a score of 70.

The third highest rated game on the Wii U at the moment is New Super Mario Bros. U with a metascore of 82.

"After playing through New Super Mario Bros. 2 on 3DS a few months ago, I was concerned that the "New" series had run its course. The levels didn't feel as fresh and the coin collection gimmick didn't make much of an impact," Game Informer wrote.

"I feared this dip in quality signaled stormy skies for New Super Mario Bros. U on Nintendo's next home console, but I couldn't have been more wrong."

New Super Mario Bros. U brings back the classic Mario style of gameplay in which Mario does his best to save a Princess Peach. Although tried and true, the lack of a new direction for the series seems to be the game's one flaw.

"New Super Mario Bros. U boasts a few new innovations, but ultimately this is the same Mario we've seen many times before. It's still a lot of fun, but it may not nudge a wavering gamer to rush out and buy the new console," Toronto's The Globe and Mail wrote.

The next two games with the highest metascores are Scribblenauts Unlimited and Nintendo Land.
