Here's what happened in week 26 of the MLS regular season:
Friday, August 14th
SJ Earthquakes 1-0 Colorado Rapids
After a month without a victory the Earthquakes may well have found themselves the winning formula at just the right time. Striker Clarence Goodson have found the goal scoring form that could well lead a season comeback from the San Jose side and lead their late push into the playoffs.
Saturday, August 15th
Dallas 1-2 LA Galaxy
Reigning MVP Robbie Keane cashed in on some poor Dallas defending as the Galaxy left to the top of the Western Conference. Dallas struggled without the missing Mauro Diaz and were able to take the lead before Keane, aided by Gio Dos Santos, exposed the weaknesses in the Dallas back four with two second-half strikes.
New England 2-0 Houston Dynamo
Finally The Revolution and The Dynamo were able to complete their game after various disruptions which meant the match was delayed for several hours. The wait was worth it, however, for the Revolution as they stole the victory with two expert strikes in the second half to seal the win.
New York Red Bulls 3-0 Toronto
The Red Bulls appear to have solidified their place in the playoffs as they cemented their second place position in the Eastern Conference at Saturday's win over Toronto. New York were able to flex their attacking muscles as Anthony Wallace, Gonzalo Veron and Bradley Wright-Phillips goals powered past a Toronto side, who kept Sebastian Giovinco quiet throughout the game.
Real Salt Lake 0-1 Portland Timbers
In an expert defensive display, the Portland Timbers were able to weather the attacking onslaught from RSL and scored a winner in added time to claim an unlikely looking victory. RSL will no doubt be kicking themselves for not coming away with the win after spurring a host of opportunities to score, but Nat Borchers headed the winner for a jubilant Timbers team who retain hopes of post-season qualification.
Sporting KC 4-3 Vancouver Whitecaps
In the weekend's most dramatic game Sporting Kansas City launched a late rally to claim a victory against the Whitecaps despite trailing with only four minutes remaining. Having scored three goals in the final ten minutes, Kansas City claimed an unlikely victory to break Whitecaps fans hearts after watching their side perform so impressively up until their collapse in the final minutes.
Sunday, August 16th
Philadelphia Union 3-3 Chicago Fire
The desperation for final Eastern Conference playoff places was on full display as the Union and the Fire played out an entertaining draw just days after their midweek battle in the US Open Cup. Sebastian Le Toux might have thought he had won the match for the Union with a 92nd minute goal, but just seconds later Kennedy Igboananike broke Philadelphia hearts with a last gasp equalizer.
Seattle Sounders 4-0 Orlando City
Obafemi Martins return to fitness could not have come at a better time for the Sounders, as his two goals helped his Seattle side dominate Orlando City and reestablish themselves as favorites to make the playoffs after a recent dip in form.
