The latest and presumably last movie in the "Resident Evil" franchise, titled "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter," will be bringing back at least one character missing from the last film.

Deadline  confirmed that Ali Larter will reprise her role as Claire Redfield for the upcoming movie. The former "Heroes" and "Legends" star was first seen in the Resident Evil film franchise in the movie "Resident Evil Extinction" and reprised her role in "Resident Evil: Afterlife." While the character did not die at the end of her last movie, she was mysteriously missing in the last Resident Evil film.

Director WS Anderson will also be returning for the next installment and he believes that Larter should play an important part in the film. Anderson has directed four consecutive Resident Evil movies and he hopes that the fifth will surpass the previous installments. According to Coming Soon, Mila Jovoich will also reprise her role as Alice while it is not yet unknown if Wentworth Miller will return for his role as Claire's brother and Resident Evil original, Chris Redfield.

Anderson goes on to partially explain why the Redfield siblings were not in the last movie. While the characters did not die, they were apparently captured by the villainous Umbrella Corporation and have been held in a secret facility. While not going into much detail on what horrible things befell the two, Anderson does say that it could not have been comfortable.

"Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" will probably revolve around what happened to Claire as well as the repercussions of Alice getting back her powers at the end of the last movie. The plot of the film will start off soon after the events of "Retribution" as Alice has just made a deal with Albert Wesker to try to stop the Umbrella Corporation and the Red Queen from destroying humanity.

Resident Evil is currently the highest grossing franchise based on a video game. The franchise as a whole has grossed US $915 million worldwide.

The filming of "Resident  Evil: The Final Chapter" is set to start next month in South Africa. While not much else is known on which characters will return for the film, do not be surprised that there will be others returning. "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" is currently under the Screen Gems company and is set to be released on Sept. 2, 2016.
