The semi-prequel to “The Walking Dead” on AMC is currently in development. The first full trailer of the zombie drama series was featured at San Diego Comic-Con, presenting the characters in the same universe.

Screen Rant wrote that “Fear the Walking Dead” was set in Los Angeles, California, as compared to “The Walking Dead” which started in Atlanta and ended in Virginia in the fifth season. The synopsis stated that the upcoming zombie survival show explores the beginning of the undead apocalypse in the perspective of a fractured family. The mysterious diseases starts to spread and two families have to deal with their personal issues, at the same time do their best to survive as the rest of the world breaks down.

“A forced evolution, a necessary survival of the fittest takes hold, and our dysfunctional family must either reinvent themselves or embrace their darker histories,” the synopsis stated.

Kim Dickens and Cliff Curtis will star in “Fear the Walking Dead,” taking on the roles of Madison Clark and Travis Manawa, respectively. Frank Dillane, Alycia Debnam-Carey and Lorenzo James Henrie will play the roles of their children. Elizabeth Rodriguez will co-star as Henrie’s mother. The Salazar family will be played by Ruben Blades, Patricia Reyes Spindola and Mercedes Mason.

The blended family of Madison and Travis will meet the Salazar family while trying to stay safe against the initial phase of the zombie destruction. The series will follow the course of “The Walking Dead," so fans should expect a lot of bloodshed and sudden deaths among the characters. Cinema Blend wrote that “Fear the Walking Dead” will not be based on the comic books by Robert Kirkman, unlike “The Walking Dead.” Co-creators Kirkman and Dave Erickson, however, plan for “Fear the Walking Dead” to eventually catch up with “The Walking Dead” at some point. There are rumors that some characters from “The Walking Dead” will appear in the new series. Reportedly, a number of elements from “The Walking Dead” will be noticeable in “Fear the Walking” dead, as creators continue to stitch the two shows together.

Bloody Disgusting featured several screen shots from the upcoming series, giving fans a glimpse of some of the things to expect. The first season of the new series will comprise of six episodes, each lasting one hour, similar to “The Walking Dead”.

“Fear the Walking Dead” is set to debut on August 23, 2015 at 9:00 p.m. on AMC. The sixth season of “The Walking Dead” will air on October 11, 2015 on AMC.
