Mitt Romney lost the presidential election by a decisive margin to President Barack Obama but the former Massachusetts did perform better than the 2008 Republican presidential candidate.

At the end of Election Day 2012, Romney received 206 votes from the Electoral College, which is 33 votes more than Arizona Senator John McCain's results on Election Day 2008. McCain received 173 Electoral votes from 22 states.

Election Day 2012 also saw Romney won all the states McCain won with the addition of Indiana and North Carolina. The two before mentioned states offer 11 and 15 Electoral votes, respectively, and although it doesn't equal to 33, due note several states lost and gained votes due to redistricting based on the latest census.

Romney also received better numbers than McCain in Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Oklahoma, North Dakota, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, Wyoming, and even McCain's state of Arizona.

McCain performed better than Romney in Alabama, Alaska, Louisiana, and Mississippi.

Alabama: 9 Electoral College Votes

2008: McCain - 60.3 percent, Obama - 38.7 percent

2012: Romney - 61 percent, Obama - 38 percent

Alaska: 3 Electoral College Votes

2008: McCain - 59.4 percent, Obama - 37.9 percent

2012: Romney- 55 percent, Obama - 42 percent

Arizona: 11 Electoral College Votes (Up 1 Vote from 2008)

2008: McCain - 53.6 percent, Obama - 45.1 percent

2012: Romney - 55 percent, Obama - 44 percent

Arkansas: 6 Electoral College Votes

2008: McCain - 58.7 percent, Obama - 38.9 percent

2012: Romney - 61 percent, Obama - 37 percent

Georgia: 16 Electoral College Votes (Up 1 Vote from 2008)

2008: McCain - 52.2 percent, Obama - 47 percent

2012: Romney  - 53 percent, Obama - 45 percent

Idaho: 4 Electoral College Votes

2008: McCain - 61.5 percent, Obama - 36.1 percent

2012: Romney - 65 percent, Obama - 33 percent
