The Galaxy Tab A has been recently sold at a discount. Does this mean its successor is coming very soon?

"The Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 and Galaxy Tab A 9.7 launched in the U.S. only a couple of months ago but are already getting great discounts," Tech Times said. "Hitting the U.S. in early May 2015, the two Galaxy Tab A slates are now more affordable with $30 discounts."

The $229.99 Galaxy Tab A can be had at $199.99, while the 9.7-inch model can be bought at $269.99. However, the deal expired July 4th.

But more than the discount opportunity is the symbolism of this offer - is Samsung about to release the Galaxy Tab S2?

Although initially rumored to be announced in June, the month came and went without the South Korean tech giant confirming the release of the said tablet. However, leaks have sated Samsung fans and pundits' curiosity, with one said to come from Chinese certification authority TENAA, SamMobile said. Another leak came from the device's FCC certification, showing an AMOLED display and "2048×1536 pixels resolution, an Exynos 5433 processor clocked at 1.9GHz, 3GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel rear camera, LTE connectivity, and Android 5.0 Lollipop with the latest iteration of Samsung's TouchWiz UX on top."

The model also comes in two different iterations - an 8-inch one and a 9.7-inch version. This is reminiscent of the Galaxy Tab A.

"The aspect ratio has also apparently been changed to 4:3, which again is much like what the iPad offers," Tech Radar observed.

"The upcoming Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 is believed to weigh 9.17 ounces, or 260 grams and measure 7.80 x 5.29 x 0.21 inch, or 198.2 x 134.5 x 5.4 mm, which makes it the thinnest tablet in the world," Tech Times added. "The tablet is also expected to be available in Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi with cellular connectivity."

Looks like Samsung's taking a lot of notes from Apple's line of tablets.

Previously, it was hoped that the new Samsung slate would be released in June. Now, it's been rumored that the devices may be launched early in July. After all, its predecessor was announced in June 2014 and sold in July of that same year. Right now, it looks like things are not going as predicted. Perhaps Samsung is packing more tech goodness in the upcoming tablet? Or is it waiting for Apple's next move?

As for the price, not much is known about this aspect, although it's suspected the new tablet may be sold at the same $399 and $499 price point as the current model, Gotta Be Mobile said.
