Remember when Google bought Motorola and said it wouldn't use the purchase to manufacture smartphone hardware? Looks like Google might be going back on its word, since a rumor has now been circulating that Motorola is hard at work creating a Nexus smartphone.

The rumor comes from an 'exclusive' report from droidforums.net. In it, they claim to have gotten their hands on a datasheet that lists a number of Motorola devices and the expected time frames for an Android 4.2.2 upgrade.

"We have a very exciting exclusive rumor for you guys today! We have some unconfirmed intel from within Motorola. A leaked datasheet seems to confirm that Android 4.2.2 will indeed be "Key Lime Pie." Additionally, this info also includes a timeline of Android 4.2.2/KLP upgrade dates for several Motorola devices. Finally, this same list seems to showcase a brand new Motorola RAZR device that we have not heard anything about called the Droid RAZR X," wrote editor-in-chief dgstorm in droidforums.net

Bear in mind that this is an unconfirmed rumor, and that even the folks at droidforums.net aren't going to deny that.

"Of course, all of this is completely unconfirmed, and could be fabricated, so take it with a dose of skepticism," said dgstorm.

The document does not give any details on the Motorola Nexus smartphone such as a release date, or any specs. It merely states that it exists.

The rest of the Motorola devices listed such as the Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR HD are looking like they will receive their Android 4.2.2 update sometime in Q2 or Q3 of 2013.

Google is set to unveil a new Nexus phone that it has been working on with LG at its press event on October 29.
