There are rumors circulating that the Nexus 5 2nd Gen is set to release later in 2015.

The Nexus 5 1st Gen was retired in February 2015, after being well-received by users because of its feature-packed design and affordable price. According to Android Origin, many people reportedly appreciated the Nexus 5 because it was deemed as the true Android. The Nexus 5, similar to other Nexus products, has not been available in very large quantities compared to the products of other brands. The model is also considered as a niche device that caters to a specific audience. For one, it is considered as purely Google, which means that updates and support are received straight from Google.

After Google stopped offering the Nexus 5 in Google Store, the company is now reportedly working to launch the 2015 version straight out of China through its new partnership with Huawei. Gizmo China said that Kevin Yang, Director of China Research at iSuppli, a market research firm, confirmed in March 2015 that Google has selected Huawei as its next Nexus developer. One of the major reasons why Google partnered with Huawei is because the latter is Xiaomi's largest competitor at present. Huawei's growth efforts appeared to be very promising in 2014 by featuring the Honor 6 Plus and Ascend Mate 7. There were also questions as to why Google did not choose to partner with Motorola to work on its Nexus 5 2nd Gen. In February, rumors came out that Google was looking for a Chinese partner for its next Nexus 7 device.

Android Origin also noted that a refreshed Nexus 5 2015 will feature support for Google Fi. Currently, only the Nexus 6 offers both a stock Google and Android experience, with a Google Fi network support. The Nexus 5 made a more significant impact on users because of its lower price and above-average specs. The Nexus 6 was deemed too expensive by many, averaging $649 to $699.

Christian Today wrote that the Nexus 5 2015 model might either feature a new Snapdragon processor or take advantage of Huawei's own Kirin technology. The device should also strike a balance between premium aesthetics and above-average performance. There are rumors that the Nexus 5 2nd Gen will feature a 5.1-inch display with quad HD resolution, aluminum housing, 3 GB of RAM, a 20-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front camera and a 3000 mAh battery.

Android Pit said that the 2nd Gen Nexus 5 may arrive before the end of 2015. The new Nexus may retail anywhere between $349 and $400. It is expected to be as popular as the first version.
