NFL Legend Herschel Walker believes that the Minnesota Vikings should sever its ties with Adrian Peterson.

Peterson previously made it clear that he no longer wants to play in Minnesota. The Dallas Cowboys are also reportedly eager to acquire him if the Vikings decide to let go of his contract.

The Vikings, however, have already expressed that they wanted Peterson to join their lineup during offseason training.

In a statement released on April 16, the Vikings announced"The Minnesota Vikings have been informed by the NFL that Adrian Peterson has been reinstated. We look forward to Adrian re-joining the Vikings."

But Walker said in a Pioneer Press report, "It makes no sense just to hang on to him just to hang on to him. I don't think that's right if you're not getting along. They should trade him because I think Adrian has lost his love for the Vikings with everything that went on last year. There is a lot of bad blood right now. I think Adrian feels that (the Vikings) should have supported him throughout his tough time, and I think they should trade him if they can."

He added, "You want to get that harmony together with everybody rather than have inner dissension between any players," Walker said. "Adrian is such a big part of the team that you like him to be happy. If they keep him, I think Adrian will go out and play as hard as he can, but it will be very difficult."

Walker also said that he would opt to trade rather than rely on the 2015 NFL draft to get a running back, if he were the Cowboys general manager.

Walker continued, "If you're a general manager and you're a team that is right on the verge of being an elite team, a Super Bowl contender. I wouldn't go out and draft a young (running back). I think Adrian is somebody I'm going to go out and get because he can put you over the top."

CBS Sports reported that the Vikings might trade Peterson for more compensation and a starting cornerback. One insider told the Pioneer Press that if the Vikings are considering trading Peterson, the team will most likely do it before or during the NFL draft. Reportedly, some of the teams involved are San Diego, Atlanta, Arizona, Tampa Bay, Jacksonville and Dallas.

In October 1989, the Dallas Cowboys traded Herschel Walker to the Minnesota Vikings in a mega-deal involving 18 players and draft picks, Pioneer Press noted. The trade worked well for Dallas.
